Friday, September 4th Update
Welcome to the start of another school year. We are glad to be working in our Montessori community with you. This school year our focus is on "Joy in the Journey" and "Voice and Communication". We will be sharing throughout the year, the many ways these concepts will be coming alive at Lake Bonavista School.
We begin our school year with a focus on the Montessori tenets of Grace and Courtesy.
In a Montessori elementary school, Grace and Courtesy refers to the way we learn to live, work, and communicate respectfully with others. These lessons help children develop the social skills needed to be thoughtful members of a community. This includes how to greet someone, listen when another person is speaking, ask for help, disagree respectfully, solve problems, care for our shared environment, and recognize how our words and actions affect others.
Grace and Courtesy is not simply about teaching children to “have good manners.” It is about developing respect, empathy, independence, and responsibility. In the Montessori environment, these skills are practiced every day through modelling, conversation, and real-life experiences. We want children to understand not only what respectful behaviour looks like, but why it matters and how their choices can help create a classroom community where everyone feels safe, valued, and able to learn.
Dress for the Weather: As Montessori learners, we love to enjoy our outside learning spaces at different times throughout out our day. We also go outside TWICE for recess breaks. Please help your child by ensuring they have adequate clothing to dress for the weather. That includes appropriate outdoor shoes and a jacket. To help avoid lost items, please LABEL all outdoor attire.
Demographic Verifications and Start up Forms due September 14: Please check your MyCBE account for the annual forms and verifications. These need to be completed as soon as possible. Please note that the Student Health Plan forms need to be downloaded and completed. You can either print and send in with your child OR complete and email to the office at lakebonavista@cbe.ab.ca
Important Documents: We encourage parents to review a couple of documents at the start of each year– the progressive discipline policy and welcoming, care and safe environments, and our student code of conduct.

Healthy Hunger
School Council arranges for Healthy Hunger lunches to be available to students. This is an optional lunch program that is also a fundraiser for School Council. Parents will need to set up their Healthy Hunger accounts, adding students to the proper classroom. Create a login or login again at https://healthyhunger.ca/ Lunch orders are being set up over the next couple of weeks. Mark your calendar for these Healthy Hunger dates:

Lake Bonavista School Apple & Pear Fundraiser!
New this year, the Lake Bonavista School Apple & Pear Fundraiser! A great way to support the school while filling lunch boxes with delicious, healthy snacks and for all your favourite fall baking—from apple crisps and pies to muffins and homemade treats!
We’re offering a selection of Gala, Ambrosia and Honeycrisp apples, D’Anjou and Bartlett pears, as well as no-sugar-added dehydrated apple chips and apple drinks.
Orders are open until September 28, 2026, with pickup on Tuesday, October 13th from 2:30–3:30 p.m at Lake Bonavista School.
