General Health Measures
In all matters of health, CBE takes direction from Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. Find out how you can reduce the spread and lessen the impact of illness in school communities.
Routine Immunizations
The CBE supports the AHS school-based immunization program.
Attendance Line: 403-777-6871 ext. 1
Email: absences_lakebonavista@cbe.ab.ca
Please contact the office if your child will be absent or late. For more information about our policies, see our Attendance page.
Illness or Injury
If a student is ill or injured during the school day, we will attempt to contact parents at their place of work or at home to make arrangements for the child to be taken home. The person and phone number listed as the First Contact on the forms sent home at the beginning of the school year will be the initial person contacted. If contact with the parent or sitter cannot be made and the injury is deemed serious (bumps on the head are generally considered serious), we will call 911 and the child will be taken to the hospital.
Severe Allergies
If your child suffers from a severe (life-threatening) allergy, inform the office staff and your child’s teacher about the allergy and the treatment should the allergy occur. You will be asked to complete a Student Health Plan form and/or the Student Health Emergency Response Protocol Form which will provide information to the school about your child’s allergy, health and medical needs.
Medication
Should your child require prescription or non-prescription medication at school, a Student Health Plan must be completed. We cannot assist with administering medication without this form. Parents are also required to inform teachers of any medication a child has at school.
This form is to be:
- completed if a physical or medical condition may affect the student’s attendance at school
- completed if medication is to be taken at school,
- reviewed and updated annually or sooner if there is a change in the student’s health concern or school registration.
Lice
There may be times during the school year when we have cases of head lice.
If your child has head lice, please contact the school and let us know. If your child has been exposed to lice at school we will notify you.
As a precaution, we ask all parents to check their child’s head frequently for a few weeks after any exposure. You can find more information on lice from myhealth.alberta.ca.
