September 26th Update
This has been an incredibly special week with many whole school activities. We have felt a strong sense of community and connection as we have worked together this week.
Terry Fox Run
Thursday we gathered in the gym for a special assembly to learn more about Terry Fox and why we run. We warmed up in the gym and then we headed outside to run as many laps in the field as we could. You will have noticed that students came home with tally marks on their hands to indicate the number of laps they ran. As a school, we ran 1665 LAPS!!! Stay tuned to hear the how much we collected for Toonies for Terry.
Orange Shirt day
Friday we gathered in the gym for Orange Shirt Day. Room 16 led us in with a drumming circle. We learned greeting words and place words in Indigenous languages for our land acknowledgement. Students shared stories, songs and poems in honour of this special day. Later in the morning the entire school went outside for sit spots. Ask your child what they wrote about in their journal while they sat in their special spot.
Assemblies
We would love to have parents join us for assemblies but the size of our gym is a limiting factor. Please note that as classes do sharing assemblies, we will be able to accommodate parents for those classes only.
Upcoming Dates:
September 29: Non-instructional Day – No school for students
September 30: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Schools are Closed)
October 6: Photo Day
From School Council
Our next school council meeting is Tuesday, October 14 at 6:00pm in the Learning Commons of LBS. ALL parents/guardians of LBS students are invited to attend. The first meeting is our Annual General Meeting. Come and see how you can get involved in our school.

Healthy Hunger
Lake Bonavista School will be participating in Fun Lunches through Healthy Hunger again this year! In order to get reminders and order lunches you will be required to add/re-add your child/children before the first Fun Lunch day. Please go to Healthy Hunger (healthyhunger.ca) and login to set up your child/children or to create a new account.
Fun Lunches cannot happen without the support of volunteers to help deliver lunches! Please consider supporting this program by offering your time on fun lunch days to deliver meals to classes. This requires only 45 minutes of volunteering from 11:30 to 12:15 on fun lunch days. If you can help please sign up and/or email Natalie at funlunchlbs@gmail.com.
Did you know that Fun Lunches are an amazing fundraising source for the school? These lunches are not mandatory for children but a percent of all fun lunches that are purchased go back to the school and offer opportunities to help pay for or subsidize school events, field trips, school supplies and more!
