September 26th Update

Today we hosted our Orange Shirt Day assembly. Students from room 12 and 17 contributed by hosting the assembly and reading a special story. We come together on this day to remember that Every Child Matters. To demonstrate our belonging, each student was given a fall leaf to put their name on and contribute to a whole school collaborative art piece.

Monday is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. There is no school this day. Please see the news story that highlights some community opportunities for this day.

World Teacher’s Day

October 5th is World Teacher’s Day. We are so grateful for our group of teachers. We have an exceptional staff who devote their passion and expertise to our school.

Communication – Subscribe to Allow Content

We want to ensure that you are receiving messages from the school. Blocks can happen if you intentionally or by accidentally tagging an email as spam or junk, or sometimes email servers sense that an email is coming from an electronic mailing system and try to save you from the spam and the system blocks our emails. It can be helpful if you add your usual senders to your address book, then your system will recognize the messages as safe and not flag them as spam. We recommend adding the current teacher’s email address and the school’s email address. If you also add cbecommunications@cbe.ab.ca that will help to ensure you receive system messages.

Mark Your Calendars:

Parent Teacher conferences are coming up in October. October 24th there will be no school for kindergarten students to allow for enough conference times. There will be some kindergarten conference times during the day. Conference bookings for K-6 will open up on October 9th. BE prepared by ensuring you have set up your MYCBE/PowerSchool account. Conferences for grades K-6 will be Thursday 3:30-7:40 and Friday 8:00-1:00.

Family School Travel Survey: Lake Bonavista School is taking part in the Active and Safe Routes to School project that will improve the school journey for our students. Through School Travel Planning, our school community will work with community partners to reduce congestion, address traffic safety issues and encourage more students to walk and wheel for school and local trips.

Please complete this 5-minute Family Survey with your eldest child who attends this school. Your input is important to the success of this project. Knowing what travel choices families are making and why they are making them will help the school create an action plan that considers everyone’s needs.

This survey is voluntary; you may choose not to participate and you have the option to withdraw from this survey at any point. We do not ask for your name. Your responses are anonymous and will be stored electronically in secure password-protected files, only accessible to the school's Active and Safe Routes to School team, Ever Active Schools, and the City of Calgary, who are directly involved in the project.  Family Travel Survey

Traffic Safety: Did you know that the front of the school is marked with No Stopping sections? We have noticed a lot of confusion because so many parents park here. We ask families to choose safety over convenience. Parking or stopping in these zones, particularly by the crosswalk, creates reduced visibility for pedestrian safety. In addition, as this street is so busy at drop off and pick up, stopping and parking in this zone creates a single lane for cars to travel in both directions, considerably slowing down traffic. Thank you for adhering to the signage.
