Friday, September 11th Update
As we settle into our classroom routines, this is the perfect time to teach and reinforce the ways we can show grace and courtesy to one another. In a Montessori environment, grace and courtesy are an important part of building a peaceful, respectful community. Students are learning not only how to navigate the routines of the classroom, but also how their words and actions contribute to the experience of everyone around them.
Together, we are encouraging students to listen with respect, speak with kindness, celebrate differences, and care for one another. Building a caring community takes effort from everyone, and we are proud to see our students developing the awareness and skills to help make our classrooms welcoming, inclusive, and joyful places to learn.
One way to demonstrate this skill is to “Notice and Do.” This involves awareness and action. For example, a student might see a jacket that was left outside and bring it inside for their friend or a student could see someone sitting along and invite them to come play.
Open House: Our annual open house is Thursday, September 17th from 4:00-5:00. Please watch for more information from your child’s teacher. Different from sneak-a-peek, this event will allow your child to show specific classroom work and items. We will then all mosey our way out to the garden compound to our Stampede Batter Boys pancake dinner hosted by our School Council.
Sharing of Food Items: We know that sharing is caring, but when it comes to food we have a lot of other things to consider including the safety of students and allergies. Please do not send food items for students to share in class.
Dress for the Weather: As Montessori learners, we love to enjoy our outside learning spaces at different times throughout out our day. We also go outside TWICE for recess breaks. Please help your child by ensuring they have adequate clothing to dress for the weather. That includes appropriate outdoor shoes and a jacket. To help avoid lost items, please LABEL all outdoor attire.
Demographic Verifications and Start up Forms due September 14: Please check your MyCBE account for the annual forms and verifications. These need to be completed as soon as possible. Please note that the Student Health Plan forms need to be downloaded and completed. You can either print and send in with your child OR complete and email to the office at lakebonavista@cbe.ab.ca
Terry Fox Run – This is our 20th year of participating in the Terry Fox run. On Thursday, September 24th students K-6 will be joining our school wide Terry Fox Run. Please help your child dress for the weather. We will be collecting “Toonies for Terry” on run day. If you would like to contribute a larger donation to the Terry Fox Foundation, please use this link to access the LBS fundraising page.

Healthy Hunger
School Council arranges for Healthy Hunger lunches to be available to students. This is an optional lunch program that is also a fundraiser for School Council. Parents will need to set up their Healthy Hunger accounts, adding students to the proper classroom. Lake Bonavista School Apple & Pear Fundraiser!
New this year, the Lake Bonavista School Apple & Pear Fundraiser! A great way to support the school while filling lunch boxes with delicious, healthy snacks and for all your favourite fall baking—from apple crisps and pies to muffins and homemade treats!
We’re offering a selection of Gala, Ambrosia and Honeycrisp apples, D’Anjou and Bartlett pears, as well as no-sugar-added dehydrated apple chips and apple drinks.
Orders are open until September 28, 2026, with pickup on Tuesday, October 13th from 2:30–3:30 p.m at Lake Bonavista School.
