October 11, 2024 Update
This week we have been hosting the Active and Safe Routes to School residency in partnership with EverActive Schools and the City of Calgary. Mr. Link’s grade 3-4 class is leading this work and we look forward to hearing some of the results. We received a large number of survey responses, so we know this is important to our community.
Safe routes to school is an important focus for us. Being an alternative program school we have students coming from over 50 different communities in south Calgary. That creates a beautiful diversity in our school as well as some congestion in traffic at drop off and pick up. Every day we see “close calls” in our crosswalks and on the street in front of the school. We see families parking further away so they can walk safely to the school. Sadly, we also see parents stopping and parking even when the signs indicate it is a no stopping zone. We respectfully ask that parents consider the safety of our entire learning community as their top priority. As we continue to look for solutions for traffic, we hope that parents can help by creating safe routes for their children.
