March 6th Update
Thank you to School Council for their generous support allowing us to host author David Bouchard at our school. We heard him play his flutes, heard stories and learned so much from him. Students have reflected on their experiences within their class and you will likely see evidence of learning during Student Led Conferences.
Today was a busy week with offsite experiences. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who supported the grade 1-2 trips to the Bird Sanctuary and grade 3-4 trips to Youth Singers School. We appreciate your support to make these experiences possible.
TREX: We are excited to host another travelling art exhibit. This exhibit is called “Howl in the Grass”. Classes are coming into the learning commons to observe this incredible art and make observations and connections.
Yellow Steps Education: Our residence with Yellow Steps Education is starting Monday. We have been exploring the inquiry about connection. This place based learning opportunity will allow us to be explorers of our own place and make curricular connections to each grade. Each classroom teacher will be sharing their dates and times of the residency. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather as this is an outdoor experience – come rain or come shine.
Student Led Conferences: Conference bookings are open through your MyCBE/PowerSchool account. The format for conferences is student led. Students will have a 45 minute block of time in their classrooms to show process and products. There will time in that period for one on one with the classroom teacher. Students must attend with their parents – plan to stay the full duration of the conference. Only one conference can be booked per student. If you require an additional conference for a unique reason, you will need to contact your child’s teacher. Conference times are Thursday, March 19 3:30-7:30 and Friday, March 20 8:00-12:00. Please note there is NO school for Kindergarten on Thursday, March 19th as their conferences will also be occurring all day.
Scholastic Book Fair: We are happy to host the Scholastic Book Fair at the same time as Student Led conferences. The book fair will be open to parents Thursday, March 19th 3:30-7:00pm (if you book the last conference please do your shopping BEFORE your conference) and Friday, March 20 8:00-12:00 (if you book the last conference please do your shopping BEFORE the conference).
