January 23rd Update

Over the past two weeks, classes have been working on unique writing tasks. Teachers have been gathering this student work to assess and plan next steps in writing strategies. We are working towards continued development of written expression.  Expression goes beyond the act of printing and it allows students to share their voice, creativity and ideas in written format. Ask your child what kind of writing they have been working on at school. One great way to develop written expression is through oral expression. Taking time to talk about experiences and share stories flows into students ability to generate ideas for writing as well as write in a logical sequence and flow.

Next week is Family Literacy Day. This year we will be inviting students to bring home a special Family Literacy Challenge. Watch for this to come home next week!

We are also watching closely as the Winter Olympics 2026 get closer to starting. These games are in Italy – which creates a neat connection for us with Maria Montessori being from Italy!

Lunch: This is a reminder that food delivery services (such as SkipTheDishes, Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.) are strongly discouraged to deliver food to elementary students during the school day. For safety and supervision reasons, students should only bring food from home. Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us maintain a safe school environment.

Upcoming Dates:

January 29: Healthy Hunger

January 29: Montessori Open House for NEW students 6:30-7:30pm

January 30: Non-instructional Day

School Council

Get Involved. Make a Difference. Be Part of Our School Community!

Our School Council is looking for enthusiastic parents and caregivers to help make this school year memorable for our students. Volunteering is a rewarding way to support our school, connect with other families, and create amazing experiences for our kids—no experience required and support is always provided!

Why Your Help Matters
Our School Council  and Parent Council events and programs are entirely volunteer-led. Without enough support, much-loved activities like the School Dance, Welcome Back BBQ, Yearbook, and even the Fun Lunch may need to be scaled back or not offered at all. Every volunteer—whether helping occasionally or taking on a coordinator role—directly impacts what we’re able to provide for our students. Your time and involvement truly make these special experiences possible.

We are still looking for support filling the following roles:

Volunteer Coordinator

Help bring our events to life by organizing volunteers throughout the year. You’ll keep a contact list, coordinate sign-ups, and ensure volunteers are cleared—making it easy for others to lend a hand.

Fun Lunch Coordinator
Help make lunchtime extra exciting! This role involves planning fun lunches using Healthy Hunger, coordinating vendors, and helping ensure orders and volunteers are well organized. You don’t need to attend every lunch—just help set things up for success.

Yearbook Coordinator and committee members
Capture the memories! Work as part of a team to create our school yearbook by attending events, taking photos, organizing layouts, and ensuring consent forms are collected.

Interested in any of these roles?  Please reach out to our chair at lbschair@gmail.com

Looking for a High-Impact, One-Day Way to Help?
If ongoing volunteering isn’t possible right now, consider signing up for a casino volunteer shift. June 22nd or June23rd 2026 Just one shift can raise hundreds of dollars for our School Council. These funds help reduce the cost of field trips, support extra classroom resources, and enhance programs that directly benefit our students. It’s a powerful way to make a big difference in a single day!
