December 8th Update

Friday, LBS staff joined with Killarney and CJP teachers for a joint Montessori PD. We are grateful for this time to collaborate and share with one another. A big thanks to MAPSS for providing coffee and morning treats for us!

Gratitude

The December Montessori tenet is Gratitude.  As our school motto demonstrates: Peace, Gratitude, Montessori, we know that this is an important aspect of our school community. In the spirit of building community and gratitude we are hosting a food drive at LBS. If you are able, please send in any non-perishable food items for donation to the Calgary Food Bank. We invite families to bring their donations to the Winter Solstice event next Thursday evening. LBS will be collecting donations until Friday December 15.

As part of the development of practical life skills as well as the Montessori tenets of gratitude and responsibility, grade 6 leaders will be supporting Tea Time Tuesday. This is recess tea service for staff. Students are excited to sign up for this leadership opportunity.

Lockdown Practice for Emergency Preparedness

On Thursday, LBS staff and students participated in a lockdown practice, with the support of CPS Const. Gary Burrows and his partner. Students and staff were notified that the practice would be starting prior to the lockdown announcement. Feedback from our CPS constables was positive and noted the quick response of staff to secure their rooms and ensure student safety. We are mandated to hold two of these practices per year – our next practice will be in the spring.

Winter Event

Lake Bonavista School is thrilled to welcome all Lake Bonavista Families to our LBS Winter Solstice on Thursday December 14 from 6:30-8:00 pm.

LBS students and their households are welcome to attend. With over 370 students at our school, this will help keep the numbers manageable.  Thank you for your understanding.

Family Activities will be happening throughout the school.  Each student will also be participating in a Short Music Performance.  Students will perform on the stage and household members will be part of a standing audience.  Students will need to be at the Kindergarten room 10 minutes before each performance to allow time to get organized for the stage. Please see the email from Mrs. Kawchuck for more details on the performance schedule.

Students are expected to be with adult family members at all times, with the exception of when they are getting ready in the Kindergarten room and when they are performing.

All students will be dismissed to their parents in the gym after their performance.
