August 30, 2024 Update

We are happy to welcome everyone to school. We had a smooth transition back to school this week. Maria Montessori believed that supporting a child in their growing independence was essential for parents and teachers. The start of a new school year is always a time that we see, in action, children growing their independence. Whether it is going to school for the very first time, taking the bus, helping to pack lunch, or establishing other new routines, going back to school welcomes these opportunities for gaining greater independence year after year. Some ways to support your child’s independence are: letting them carry their own backpack, helping them pick their clothes the night before, having voice and choice in their lunches/snacks and setting them up for success with things like shoes/jackets/bags that they can manage on their own. “The education of even a small child, therefore, does not aim at preparing him for school, but for life.” Maria Montessori

August 31 marks the birthday of Dr. Maria Montessori. Dr. Maria Montessori was an Italian physician and educator. She opened the first Montessori School in 1907. She broke barriers in education and her pedagogy and educational theory still resonates today. We celebrate her wisdom in pioneering new ways of thinking.

Transportation – If your child is not taking the bus at the end of the day as per usual, please ensure the office has been notified by 2:30pm. This allows office staff time to update bus attendance and makes the end of the day much smoother. If we are unaware of a student not taking the bus, the bus will wait until we have reached a parent to confirm the child’s whereabouts.

Garden - Thank you to our incredible volunteers who weeded the garden before our return to school and who tended to the garden the entire and very hot summer. Our garden is a very special place and we appreciate all of support in helping it to thrive.

Stay connected – We will update our website weekly with information you will need for the week ahead. You can also follow us on instagram for highlights @montessori_lbs You can find each teacher’s instagram or blog on our website under “Classes”.
